On July 30th, 2025, the Women and Youth Road Safety Association (WYRSAKe), in
partnership with the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (NaMATA), hosted
“Electrifying Public Transport: Pioneering the Future of Mobility” at Mövenpick Hotel,
Nairobi. The event marked the mini-launch of 15 fully electric 14-seater vans—Kenya’s first
women-and-youth-led electric public transport initiative, now set to operate along the
Kenol–Ruiru–Westlands–Ruaraka route.
Key stakeholders from government, development partners, civil society, and the private
sector gathered to discuss inclusive strategies for transitioning to electric mobility. The keynote
address, delivered on behalf of NaMATA’s Director General, emphasized the importance of
clean transport in reducing emissions and creating green jobs—particularly for women and
youth.
Highlights included a dynamic panel discussion on empowering marginalized groups in
e-mobility, the launch of the Battery Circularity Report by Knights Energy, and powerful
testimonials from transport operators reflecting on real-world EV integration. The event also
underscored the need for supportive policies, accessible financing, training, and public-private
collaboration.
The unveiling of the electric vans symbolized a major step toward sustainable,
community-driven transport. The event closed with a strong call to action: to scale e-mobility
solutions that are clean, inclusive, and future-ready.
