Route 111 Pilot Project

Transforming Public Bus Transport

The Route 111 Pilot Project enhanced public transport along Route 111 by significantly improving reliability, safety and comfort. By introducing better scheduling, modern vehicles, and improved service management, commuters experienced fewer delays and more consistent travel times, transforming daily commutes into smoother and more predictable journeys.

ROUTE 111 (P&P)

In collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), NaMATA successfully launched the Ngong Road Pilot Project (NPP) on 3rd April 2025, concluding it on 2nd May 2025. The pilot was a key component of a broader three-year initiative, which began in April 2022.

Route 111 was selected due to its strategic importance and high passenger demand. The pilot introduced standardized operations, fixed fares, scheduled services, and vehicle tracking systems.

Drivers and conductors underwent dedicated training to align service delivery with best practices in customer care and road safety, setting the stage for scaling up across Nairobi.
