NaMATA has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborative infrastructure development by serving as the Silver Sponsor for the Association of Consulting Engineers of Kenya (ACEK) President’s Dinner. Held at the PrideInn Azure Hotel in Westlands, the high-profile event converged leadership from government agencies, the engineering fraternity, and the private sector to deliberate on the trajectory of Kenya’s national infrastructure.
Representing NaMATA, the Director of Corporate Services, Mr Joab Logemere, delivered a keynote address on behalf of the Director General, Eng. Francis Gitau, positioning strategic professional partnerships as the cornerstone of regional transformation. Mr Logemere emphasised that delivering an integrated, reliable, and sustainable Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system for the Nairobi Metropolitan Area requires a unified front across government institutions, professional bodies, and private investors.
In the address delivered on behalf of the Director General, the message underscored the necessity of institutional synergy:
“Transforming public transport is not merely an engineering challenge; it is a collaborative mandate. Developing innovative, people-centred mobility solutions demands that we bridge the gap between policy-making and world-class technical expertise.”
The forum also served as a launchpad for broader institutional strategies. In his opening address, ACEK President Eng. Gabriel Jabongo outlined the Council’s 2024–2028 Strategic Plan. The roadmap is anchored on three central pillars: advocacy, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement. Eng. Jabongo highlighted ACEK’s active collaboration with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) and the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) to secure a prominent seat for consulting engineers at the national policy-making table, ensuring technical insight directly shapes future legislation.
Beyond macro-policy and large-scale transit systems, the evening highlighted the critical importance of human capital and knowledge transfer. The ACEK President showcased the Association’s corporate social responsibility and talent pipeline initiatives, highlighting ongoing mentorship programmes at institutions such as Limuru High School and Nova Pioneer designed to inspire the next generation of Kenyan engineering professionals.
NaMATA’s sponsorship and active participation in the dinner underscore a deliberate strategy to leverage local engineering expertise. By establishing continuous dialogue, technical collaboration, and transparent project frameworks with professional bodies like ACEK, the Authority aims to accelerate the delivery of resilient transport infrastructure.
