NaMATA has formalised its strategic deliverables for the 2025/2026 financial year, underscoring its commitment to revolutionising public transport within the metropolitan region. The pledge was sealed during the Ministry of Roads and Transport’s official performance contract signing ceremony held at Barabara Plaza. This high-level event establishes actionable governance benchmarks for state agencies to ensure accountability and robust public service delivery.
The ceremony was presided over by the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Davis Chirchir, and witnessed by the Ministry’s executive leadership, including Principal Secretaries Eng. Joseph Mbugua (Roads), Mr. Mohamed Daghar (Transport), and Ms. Teresia Mbaika (Aviation). To validate the Authority’s institutional commitment, the performance agreement was signed by NaMATA Board Chairman Hon. Benson Mutura and Board Director Hon. Dominic Koskei. NaMATA Director General, Eng. Francis Gitau, was also in attendance to spearhead the operational implementation of the newly signed mandates.
Addressing the heads of state corporations, Cabinet Secretary Hon. Davis Chirchir commended the Ministry’s administrative strides over the past year, notably the successful clearance of over Ksh 177 billion in outstanding pending bills to establish a fiscally sound foundation for all state agencies. The Cabinet Secretary issued definitive operational directives to guide the new financial year, emphasizing strict fiscal discipline to maximise resources effectively and optimize public value. He further directed that all future contractual obligations be settled promptly to mitigate project delays, whilst outlining long-term strategies to leverage Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to fast-track infrastructure projects and advance aviation development plans.
For NaMATA, the signing of the 2025/2026 performance contract cements its core mandate to alleviate transit challenges within the metropolitan area. The Authority remains aggressively focused on the completion and rollout of the modern Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. By meeting these performance targets, NaMATA continues to pave the way for a more integrated, efficient, and reliable mass transport network that sustainably serves millions of daily commuters.
